TOD Infrastructure Finance and Delivery Strategy
January 12, 2024 | Statewide TOD Infrastructure Finance and Delivery Strategy (InfraFinStrategy) developed for the Hawaiʻi Interagency Council for Transit-Oriented Development (TOD Council). The “InfraFin Strategy” was funded by the Legislature to identify alternative financing, cost recovery, and project delivery tools to expedite TOD and housing production statewide. Key Consultants provided an overview of the Strategy and focused on key proposals such as enabling legislation for Tax Increment Financing (TIF). Early Learning Forum
July 15, 2022 | The Hawaii Business Roundtable held its Early Learning Forum on July 15th. The forum provided an update on the status of the State's efforts to achieve the goal of 100% access to early learning by 2032 as outlined in Act 46. On Thursday, July 7, 2022, Governor Ige signed HB 2000 which provides $200 Million for Preschool facilities in our Public School System. The Panelist covered the entire spectrum of the issues and provided participants with an overview of the challenges and opportunities ahead. DODEA STUDENT TRANSITION PROGRAM
November 17, 2021 | The Hawaii Business Roundtable continues its support for Transition Centers. The centers were designed to support our newly arrived military-dependent students and have proven to make a difference in the lives of our military children and families. The HBR held a webinar featuring The Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) as they shared insight on their new Student Transition Program. Their program components are mirrored in all DoDEA Pacific Region’s middle and high schools; modeled after Hawaii Department of Education School Transition Centers. And the components are critical to minimizing the stressors of a highly mobile population.. The webinar was presented by Ms. Lois Rapp, DoDEA Pacific Director of Student Excellence, Ms. Tuya Rosenberry, Program Analyst at DoDEA Pacific Regional Office, Ms. Debbie Alcazar, Transition Coordinator at Kadena High School Okinawa, Japan and Ms. Jean Grice, Liaison Officer to the US Pacific Command at DoDEA. SMS Research Hawaii also recently completed its Community Pulse Survey of Hawaii residents and their attitudes regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. Thanks to the Business Roundtable, McKinsey and Company and SMS Research, this webinar provided the opportunity to get a sense of public sentiment at a national and local level regarding COVID-19 and its impact. July 08, 2020 | Superintendent Dr. Christina Kishimoto provided an overview of her plan to reopen schools on August 4th during the ongoing COVID-19 situation. This fall, Hawaii’s public-school system will be one of the first districts across the country to welcome students, educators, and staff back to school.
Along with plans on reopening schools, Dr. Kishimoto also shared how she plans to accelerate digital transformation in the Hawaii State Department of Education. The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted areas for improvement within our public schools while also creating the conditions to embrace innovation and empowerment faster.
